Suresh has 19-year experience in the intellectual property field - analysing early stage inventions primarily in the life science and biomedical field, drafting and prosecuting applications through grant in multiple jurisdictions, as well as providing instruction to Counsels on opposition matters. He has worked in leading academic institutions internationally and has hands-on knowledge of leading start-ups in highly competitive technology areas. This unique experience in academia and industry also enables him to identify and resolve early any conflict areas in public and private collaborations. Suresh has been an invited speaker at many national conferences and workshops under the aegis of WIPO/ the Government of India and also presented papers at international conferences. He has also mentored students of business schools in launching start-ups with university inventions.

Suresh began his IP career with the National Institute of Immunology where he established patent filing and commercialization operations. He served on the Department of Biotechnology’s patent selection committee as well, before proceeding to Franklin Pierce Law Center to complete his Masters in Intellectual Property Law. He has interned in the Office of Technology Transfer of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda USA and evaluated invention disclosures for their commercial merit for the Infectious Diseases and Biomedical Devices group. He later worked with a boutique IP law firm in Virginia with a largely University clientele, doing legal research and drafting patent applications. Suresh later shifted to an IP law firm in Singapore where he drafted and prosecuted US and PCT applications and advised clients on IP protection strategies and FTO issues.

Suresh moved to the National University of Singapore as Manager (Life Sciences) looking after a sizeable patent portfolio and helped nurture a few spin-out companies. He later joined ES Cell International Singapore, a world leader regenerative medicine company working with human embryonic stem cells. As its Director (Operations and Licensing) he built a dominant IP portfolio for the company in the stem cell space as well as generated revenue streams worth millions of dollars from licensing reagents, cell lines and non-core IP. He became an independent IP & Licensing consultant prior to the company being acquired. He then advised clients (primarily start-ups) on harnessing their intellectual capital and helped interpret as well as navigate their way through a complex mace of restrictive license regimes.

Suresh has a life science background and also holds a Masters in English Literature. He loves flying and keeping track of global developments in research and technology. He has now moved to India in 2017 to set up a branch office for SNA at Bangalore.
