Mrinal commenced his professional career with the Transaction Advisory Services team of Ernst & Young in New York in 2007 and brings with him more than 10 years of experience in corporate finance, valuation and quantification of damages, claims or losses in a dispute, litigation or arbitration scenario across some of the Big Four and global accounting advisory firms in India. He specialises in carrying out valuation of equity, company or business, IPRs and intangibles for various purposes including Dispute resolution; Litigation and Arbitration support; Family Settlement; Shareholder Negotiation; Joint Venture (entry or exit); Merger and De-merger; Acquisition; Restructuring; Strategic Sale & Investments; Private Equity portfolio evaluation as per IPEVC guidelines; and Financial Reporting purposes.
He comes with extensive experience in Expert Witness services on behalf of claimants and respondents, preparation of independent quantum reports and rebuttal reports on valuation in dispute situations, and quantification of damages or claims or counter claims.
His experience in disputes, litigations and arbitrations includes performing complex valuations and critically examining underlying business plans in order to arrive at the quantum of damages or claims arising from wasted costs, consequential costs, loss of future profits and loss of overall business opportunity.
In case of IPR disputes, Mrinal’s experience includes valuation of intangibles; quantification of damages on account of IPR infringement under various heads of claims such as lost profits as damages (Panduit Test), assessment of royalty rates as per FRAND terms, price erosion damages.
Mrinal has also acted as a Management Advisor in certain transaction dispute situations assisting clients in strategizing the heads of claims, establishing robustness and quantum of claims and strategizing contours of the negotiation process.
Mrinal was awarded with All India Economics Merit Certificate by CBSE in 2001 post which he graduated in Economics Honours from St. Stephen’s College (Delhi) in 2004. He acquired his technical proficiency in Corporate Finance, Valuation and Financial Modelling while pursuing his MBA (Finance) from Fordham Graduate School of Business in New York in 2007. He has completed intensive training in financial modelling from “Training the Street Inc.” in New York. He has also received Certificate of Achievement from the American Society of Appraisers (ASA, USA) for completing select specialized Valuation Courses including Valuation Appraisal Report Writing course.
Mrinal has passed Level II of the CFA Program (CFA Institute, USA).
Mrinal is a Visiting Faculty at NMIMS School of Business Management and an active member of Young SIAC Forum. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences including the annual Global Intellectual Property Convention (GIPC).
