Karen is a European and Chartered (UK) Patent Attorney at Kilburn and Strode LLP, a leading London based IP firm. She specialises in patent matters relating to computer software, computer hardware, and business methods. Much of Karen’s work is in at the cutting edge of computer implemented inventions, where inventions lie close to the border of patentability in Europe and the UK. She works closely with clients to identify aspects of their inventions that are eligible for patent protection. Karen is experienced in drafting and prosecuting applications across a broad range of technologies in the IT and electronics sectors, and advises clients on infringement and validity matters. Particular subject matter she works with includes data processing and retrieval, telecommunications, protection of sensitive data in compliance with Data Security Standards, user interfaces, data storage devices, geographic mapping applications and OTT media streaming protocols, among many others. A significant portion of Karen’s practice is before the European Patent Office (EPO) and she has successfully represented her clients at Oral proceedings at the EPO on many occasions. She manages the global patent portfolio for several of her clients, prosecuting applications in multiple jurisdictions including Europe, the US, India and Australia.


Karen is originally from Chennai, India. Prior to relocating to the UK in 2006, she practiced as an Indian Patent Agent at a Chennai based firm. Karen holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree (B.E.) in Computer Science from the University of Madras (Chennai, India).  Her technical background and patent practice spanning across India and Europe in the Software and IT sector has helped Karen integrate and interact seamlessly with her hi-tech clients and  build a diverse network of business contacts, colleagues and friends. This has enabled her to service her clients with both, IP and business focused advice in this sector.”
